The use of garden hoses

People who grow flowers at home and tidy up their yards basically cannot do without PVC garden hoses. This thing is very light and not expensive. It can be used for watering flowers, cleaning the yard and washing cars. But it's not as simple as just connecting the faucet and spraying it. If you pay more attention to a few small details in daily life, the pipe can last for several more years and won't keep having annoying problems like leakage or cracking. Now let's talk about how to use it to make the most of this pipe.

Let's first talk about how to install it. Before connecting the faucet, first check if there are any sharp stones, debris or thorny branches around. These things are very likely to puncture the pipe. Take a closer look at the hose joint and the faucet itself to see if there is any mud, rust or a tear - even a tiny bit of dirt can cause the joint to not seal tightly, and water will drip continuously. If the rubber gasket in the joint is worn out, replace it quickly. This thing is cheap and easy to buy. Replacing it can stop the leakage. When tightening the joint, do it by hand first. Don't use a wrench right away, otherwise it's easy to twist the thread crooked. When your hand can no longer twist it, just gently pull it with a wrench. Do not twist it too hard, or the PVC pipe will crack.

There are also certain considerations when choosing the length of pipes. Don't buy them randomly. First, measure how far it is from the faucet to the farthest place where you need to work, and then leave an extra two or three feet for easier movement. The pipe is too long. Not only is it prone to tangling, but it also consumes a lot of materials when dragged on the concrete ground or gravel. It won't be long before it wears out. If you need to use it in several places, the entire hose rack can be used to store the pipes, or you can buy a quick coupling, which is also convenient for switching between them.

You should treat it gently when using it. Don't drag pipes on concrete ground, piles of gravel or thorny plants. Either lift them slightly or lay an old towel underneath. Never leave the pipe open and unattended. Once the pipe gets knotted or the nozzle is closed for too long, the pressure inside may rise and the pipe may burst. In hot weather, PVC softens, making this even more likely to happen. Water pressure should also be taken into consideration. Most PVC hoses can withstand a pressure of at most 80 to 100 psi. If the water pressure at home is high, remember to install a pressure regulating valve.

Temperature also has a significant impact on pipes. When it's cold (below 40°F), don't bend it right after taking it out. Put it in the sun for 10 minutes first. Otherwise, the pipe will be hard and crack as soon as it is bent. Don't leave the pipes in the sun for several hours in summer. If exposed to ultraviolet rays for too long, the pipes will become brittle.

After use, drain all the water from the pipe, otherwise it is prone to mold growth. When rolling, don't tighten it too much. Find a cool place or store it in a car. Occasionally wipe the pipe with mild soapy water. Don't use those strong chemicals or hard brushes, as they may scratch the pipe. Small leaks can be fixed with a leak patch. But if the crack is too big, don't make do with it. Replace it with a new one right away.

If you follow these simple methods, the PVC garden hoses in your home will surely last for several years without having to spend money on replacement all the time, and they will also be convenient to work on.
